U2723QX, Mac Mini, intermittent USB disconnection

I am experiencing an issue with my U2723QX monitor, which is connected to both a Mac Mini (Sonoma) and a Windows 11 PC using a docking station.

The Mac Mini is connected via USB-C, and the Windows PC through a downstream USB-C port. The setup allows me to switch USB devices connected to the monitor between the Mac Mini and Windows PC.

However, I'm facing a random disconnection of all USB devices on the Mac Mini. When this occurs, switching to the Windows PC shows that the USB devices function normally, indicating the issue is specific to the Mac.

Here is a sample log from the wifi.log on the Mac Mini, showing the disconnection events:

Notably, when I switch back from Windows to Mac, the USB devices do not reconnect. The monitor itself continues to work as expected. The only way to fix this is to physically disconnect the USB-C cable from the Mac Mini and reconnect it.

I have attempted troubleshooting steps such as disabling the iPad hands-off settings and disabling the sleep feature on my Mac Mini. The disconnections occur during active use, such as coding or web meetings, and are not related to the monitor's sleep mode.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide to resolve this frustrating issue.

Thank you for your help.

I believe I've identified a USB compatibility issue with my setup. Previously, I had an AG03 audio interface connected to my dock station. However, after disconnecting it from the monitor, the issue of random disconnections ceased. This problem hasn't occurred for almost a week now, whereas it used to happen every day or two.

It seems likely that the AG03 was the root cause. While it's disappointing not to be able to switch audio interfaces between my Mac and Windows systems, avoiding the frustration of frequent disconnections is a significant relief.

To receive assistance from Dell chat Technical support, they need to first verify the warranty status. Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. Provide to them the private U2723QX Service Tag.

Note, all USB-C cables must be the short 1m/3.2ft.

None of our macOS drivers, firmware, software state macOS 14 Sonoma support.

They state = macOS 11 Big Sur/ 12 Monterey / 13 Ventura

From the U2723QX drivers page for macOS =

I would remove the unknown dock and Windows PC from the troubleshooting. Test the Mac Mini by itself connected to the U2723QX.
- Does the issue still happen?

"Windows PC through a downstream USB-C port"
That doesn't make sense to me. A USB-C downstream port cannot transmit video, only data. Perhaps knowing what specific dock might clear that up.

Thanks for the reply.

They are under 1m.

I wasn't clear enough but I've had this phenomenon from 13 Ventura. That's why I updated to Sonoma hoping it may fix the problem. (But ended up with no luck)

It happens even though the Mac is the only one connected.

My bad about the explanation. The Windows' monitor is connected via DP. I have the USB-c -> USB-A downstream connector connected for data transfer (and for all the USBs to be connected to Windows as well).

I also tried turning off the display sleep of the Mac OSX but no luck. Also, I tried changing the Dell monitor to the primary monitor (since it was set to secondary), but phenomenon remains.

It's so random (it just suddenly disconnects everything) and I have no idea what the cause is.
