U3818DW, backlight but no image

I have come across a U3818DW monitor which does not display an image. Here's what's happening:

  • Backlight turns on which power button and on device wake.
  • Screen stays black with backlight on
  • Power button will turn display on and off.
  • Menu buttons do not change the display in any way, just black screen with backlight on.
  • Screen and resolution are recognized by the computer but with generic driver.
  • Downloading the Dell driver had no change
  • Dell Display Manager does not find the U3818DW (it is on the approved list).

My thought is that it is likely an issue with the logic board. Before tearing this thing apart are there any other suggestions on what to look for? If it did end up getting bricked during a firmware update, replacing the logic board would likely fix that as well.

Dell has never provided monitor internal components, so finding them will be difficult. Check on eBay.

Perform the no cables power button reset. Then connect only the power cable and run the Built-in Diagnostics, page 60 in the online U3818DW User's Guide.

* Turn the monitor off
* Disconnect every cable (including the power cable) from the monitor
* Press the monitor power button in for 8 seconds (clears any residual power in the circuits)
* Reconnect only the power cable to the monitor

Thank you, power button reset and diagnostics still show the black screen with backlight.  Looks like I will be looking for parts.
