Vertical red line on 2408wpf monitor.

Recently, I got vertical red line on and off on my 2408wpf monitor, I tried to capture this problem but it did not show on captured image.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w222/mark729/DSC02233.jpg

so I knew it's problem of monitor itself. I took the pictures with my digital camera.

I bought this monitor with xps630(11/2008).

At that time they said I can save $200 from purchaing with xps630.

Anyway xps630's warranty has just expired and I contacted the dell service ans they said that I need to pay $59 for troubleshooting fee and another $208 for 1 year extented warranty. that's $267. then I can get replacement.

I know that this 2408 monitor was not class of the dell's monitor.

Since I got this monitor it has brighter all 4 corner than other spot. and it sometimes turn off and on while Im using it.

What should I do for this monitor? is this all I expect from dell?

mark729,

They were correct, since the monitor was purchased tied to the PC, the monitor only uses the PC warranty. Does the red line appear when the monitor is not attached to the PC video card during the Self-Test Feature Check? If not, then the culprit is either the video card or the cabling.

I have EXACTLY the same problem.  I tried changing drivers, changing video card (and cable), changing operating system - but no, the problem persisted.

It is actually not a red line as much as a line of black/missing pixels, which is invisible on a black background. When removing the computer cable and getting the small box "Missing DVI-D 1 cable" you do not see this until that box comes to the site of the vertical fault.

The fault is temperature dependant.  It appears when the back light has been turned off long enough, and disappears when the monitor has warmed up.

It is getting worse for me; the line is getting thicker and sometimes there is a second, weaker line close to the 'original' fault line. Hopefully the Premium Panel Warranty will cover this.

True.  I have contacted Dell, but Dell in my region (Australia) seems unsure on what to do - they will contact me again next week.  So much for  my "Premium Panel Warranty, Advance Exchange (Next Business Day)"...
