WD19 with USB Type A Adapter

Hi, I have a laptop that I'd like to use the WD19 dock with that doesn't accept USB-C, just USB-A. I got a USB-C to USB-A adapter but the dock doesn't seem to work with the adapter. The dock works without it, and the adapter works with other things. I've tried using another laptop and it also doesn't work. Any suggestions?

@lacjo

The WD19 can't work when connected via USB-A, at least not at full functionality. The dock won't be able to charge the system because USB-A doesn't support sending power from peripheral to host and also never supported carrying anywhere near enough power to run a laptop. And video output won't work because the WD19, like most USB-C docks and display adapters, relies on the source system having a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, which involves the system having a GPU output wired to the USB-C port. That is an optional capability even among USB-C ports and therefore isn't even implemented on all systems that have USB-C ports -- and with those systems the WD19 won't be able to provide video output -- but that capability was never supported at all on USB-A ports. The only types of docks you can use via USB-A are docks that rely on "indirect display" technology like DisplayLink -- not to be confused with DisplayPort -- because that involves sending video as regular USB data. The Dell D6000 is a DisplayLink-based dock, but DisplayLink has several drawbacks that can be significant in some use cases, which I've written about in the post marked as the answer in this thread. And the D6000 can't supply power to a system when connected to it via USB-A.

@Idan Kogan  As I said in the reply above, that won't work.  There are female USB-C to male USB-A adapters that would physically allow the connection to be made, but you won't get video output through the WD19 that way.
