Hi NeilW9616,

As the webcam works fine on other applications except MSN Messenger, the issue seems to be with MSN application. Let me know the version that you are running.

Have you tried reinstalling the application? Please perform the following steps to uninstall the application:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
  2. Locate the MSN Messenger in the list and select it by clicking once. Then click Uninstall.
  3. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Once the application has been uninstalled, install the latest version of Windows Live Messenger from the link below:

Windows Live Messenger 2012 was released in August 2012 and is the latest version available.

Let me know if you need any information or assistance. I will be glad to assist.

Hi NeilW9616,

Thank you for your response. You mentioned in your earlier post that there is no driver installed. Please check for any yellow exclamation or question mark in Device Manager (share screenshot if possible). Here's are the steps to access device manager:

  • Click on Start
  • Right-click on Computer
  • Click on Properties
  • Click on ‘Device Manager’ on the left sidebar.
  • Expand ‘Display adapters’ (please share the options listed)

I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on “Start Conversation” to send a private message.

I would also recommend you to try the steps mentioned in the link http://bit.ly/REivVo

Please share the findings.

Hi

Following your instructions above the driver installed is Standard VDA Graphics adapter.

I have followed the procedure for the webcam as per the link at bottom of your last reply. It still does not work with Messenger.

Maybe this will help:

1. I open up person I wish to video call with.

2. Then press Actions and then Video

3. There are two options : Start a Video call which is in grey and cannot be opened or Get a webcam.  As I already have a webcam this does not help.

I will reply in private with my Service Tag number.

Many thanks

Hi NeilW9616,

Thank you for the information provided. I appreciate it. As mentioned in your above posts, Microsoft informed you regarding the video card and compatibility. Did they mention a need about a specific video card? If so, then the system has an integrated Intel graphics card with 915GV chipset. Your system was shipped with Windows XP and you have upgraded to Windows 7. However, the drivers for Windows 7 are not available for this system.

Please reply if you have any questions.
