about retension policy question

Dear All,

If I set the retention policy (1 month) for some savesets and stage them to a clone pool whose retention policy is half month.

Will the tapes of the clone pool label automaticlly after half month?

Thanks,
Dennis

Tapes will relabel automatically after they have been set eligible for recycling. That will happen when all ssids on the tape will be recycled (not that if you have ssid depending on backup cycle that may be postponed for backup cycle window - usually one week).

I assume you are running 7.3 as you use different pools. Usually it is other way around - you keep original for shorter and clone for longer time period.

If this is 7.3 (which I would assume as Dennis is talkimg about different retentions on pool basis) then things are different - there clone retention is based on pool basis.

The retention is not set on the pool but rather on the saveset at the time of the backup (possible to change later with nsrmm) and the retention of the tape will be that of the saveset that will be last to expire without any dependency. By default the retention period of the clone saveset will be the same as the original saveset and you would need to use:

nsrmm -S ssid/cloneid -r retentiontime

to set it. Assuming you have done this I would expect the clone pool tapes to expire after the savesets have passed out of their retention. However, I would run some tests with this as I don't recall ever seeing this done before and it may do something unexpected!
