Thanks for the response unfortuately I don't have a DataDomain so KB 118651 does not seem relevant although the error message is correct, while KB 105243 has a list of symptoms I can tick off, I don't get the error messages.
I will do as the KB suggests and contact EMC support.

They did back in 2012
Go to support.emc.com and place in search field document id and you will find it.
