Refer to the section on installation of the NW in linux and under that the section on console server.

For NMC, you need to have java runtime environment installed. Depending on the version of NMC you are installing the jre version changes. Normally this is a part of the installation package. The NMC package is normally a part of the server installation tar ball. You would need to install the NW client package as well before installing the NMC package. The service you are talking about is the gstd service. The package for NMC is normally named lgtonmc*.rpm for Linux. I add the * because the package name changes depending on the version you are installing.

I'm actually enjoying PL KB I always find what I needed before or I do not need. Thus I thought what I have found and I didn't need it must have been something I will need in future. And it works! Since in the past I had so many failed hits now I know everything I need for next few years

On more serious side, what you are after is part of installation guide and as such can be found in docs area (which I do not consider to be KB even some people would argue on that).

In short, you need to have "gstd" process running. If all is well, it will pick up necessary things to open up 9000 port for communication with management console.

Actual webserver is process called "gsttclsh".

I actually do that too ... Collect docs like a squirrel collecting nuts for the winter. Thus when I need it, I generally have the right doc already downloaded.

Thanks to all, finally ended up having to call EMC, something about the NMC data base being corrupted. Renamed the old db, uninstall then reinstall nmc.Took care of that over the weekend, then after a reboot, got in Monday morning, had to do a reboot, then the NMC login screen would come up, but after entering userID and password, nothing would happen. Called EMC again, this time it turned out to be something about an old version of Java on the Linux server. Installed new Java, now NMC works but my test backups to the SAN don't work anymore.

Gotta love new installs.
