Anyone Seen this before ? NDMP related 7.6Sp1

Hey ALL,

I am not a networker wiz I get the basics and use the GUI. (yeah I know) anyway, I recently upgrade to 7.6sp1 with the hotfix listed here

https://solutions.emc.com/emcsolutionview.asp?id=esg70656

So anyway here is my issue. I have a netapp. I am using NDMP to back it up. The other day I go to restore a folder and browse a backup.

I was showing someone how to do this and we clicked the entire folder structure accidently and hit restore. I noticed it and stopped the backup

almost imedienylt. I saw it scanning index. Anyway I stopped the backup. The next thing I know my users are calling saying I can't open my files.

I check and all the files on the netapp in the first two directories deep have been replaced with 0byte files. I have logged about two calls with supoprt on this

they think I am nuts. Anybody know where any of the log files are that I can look at to confirm weather or not networker killed my files ?

Hi Vertigos,

Was this from winworkr, not NMC?

Hi Vertigos,

Don't know what log you are after, but I assume that you might get a log on the NetApp saying that user loged in to

the filer, but for files restored I don't thinkt that you get the complete list of overwrites. Check /vol/vol0/etc directory on your filer.

However, NDMP is cind of clever.(But not in your perspective.) It makes a permission and filestrukture backup, and then a block

based backup. Doing the restore it probably  write the filestrukture to the filer(blowing your files to 0) and then it would have

"filled" the files with data from the restore and last set the permissions.

Due to the "outage" of the owerwrite question we have a RESTORE volume on the NetApp. Writing restores to it, and then move

the data to the destination catalogue.

Are you running DSA based(NDMP over IP) backups or direct to tape?

Know that 7.6sp1.1 is fixing a few issues with NDMP backups. Don't know if it's the same as your patchlist though.

I hope that you had a snap-shot on your filer, saving most of the data.

Best regards
