backup job scheduling with different retention period

I wanted to take everybody suggestion for doing following backup configuration ClientA.

Daily Inc backup with retention period of 1 week
Weekly Full Wtih retention period of 1 months
MOnthly Full on last Friday with retention period of 1 year
Yearly Full on Last friday of December to retain forever.

To accomplish this Should I create 4 different groups with 4 different media pools and JUST 1 client (ClientA).
OR
Should I create 4 Client (ClientA) memeber f 4 different groups associated with 4 different media pools.

Please suggest the best configuration possible to acheive my goals

Thanks
Dan

Given that your incremental goes against your full I would simply have daily kept for month too. Then I would have 3 clients associated in 3 groups that would be associated to 3 pools. Also, there is no such thing as forever in backup world for several valid reasons (if you are serious about that forever).

Thanks
I just wanted to make sure by creating 3 clients (clientA) for 3 different Groups and using 3 media pools i just using 1 client license (clientA).

please confirm, the idea of using 1 client in multiple group does not serve my purpose

Thanks

Yes, it will use 1 client license only.

You can't have 1 client in multiple groups with different retentions. When there's anything different setting you have to create another instance of that client.

... and of course, if browse is not your issue, you could have one copy always and have clone with different retention thus always using same client. However compromise here is browse which has to be smallest among those you would usually use when using multiple client definitions.
