Change Bootstrap Location

We have a set up with the networker server attached to a vtl and a node that has a physical tape drive attached.

I'm trying to get the bootstrap information to write to the tape drive attached to the node and not the server.

I can set up and use pools etc, but the bootstrap is always trying to use a the correct pool but to a tape attached to the server.

Any ideas anybody?

Thanks

Ian

That would explain why I can't get it to work - it is for DR purposes!

Do you know how you would recover the the bootstrap locally from a staged/clones tape?

Networker does not allow you to do this.  A bootstrap cannot be backed up to a remote device, but a bootstrap clone can be written to a remote device. If you use mmrecov to recover a bootstrap save set, you must recover the data from a local device.  You can backup the boostrap locally to the server and then clone or stage it off wherever you want but when running the mmrecov operation, you will need to get it back locally first.

The cluster install guide state it clearly (page 92)

The NetWorker virtual server requires a local backup device to save the bootstrap

    and the server indexes.

I believe, emc solution esg69975 is still true.

You need to find the right bootstrap and mount the appropriate volume to the tape library attached to the server.  For
full details, you can look at the Disaster Recovery Guide in Powerlink. For Networker 7.6, this is at:

    Home  >  Support  >  Technical Documentation and Advisories  > Software ~ J-O ~ Documentation  >  NetWorker Family
    >  NetWorker  > 7.6 & Service Packs

The 'Recovering a Networker Server' section deals with what you need to do in the case where you need
    to use the bootstrap backup.
