It is possible to write your own ASM, we have used one here to do some processing on data before backup with a script referenced by the ASM; I'm not too sure whether you could write one to compress and encrypt a file as I am not sure of the logic behind doing one or the other.

David,

Great to hear this. Could you do me a favor and point me to some references which I can quick start on developing our own ASM? Thanks in advance.

As far as I know there are no resources, you have to make it up yourself.  The ASM they have here was written years ago by someone who has long since retired!  Effectively what happens is the reference to the ASM in the directive is the same as calling a script which then processes the data in some way.  You will have to experiment with it and see what you can come up with yourself!
