Disable disaster recovery option
Hi to all members,
In our environment we have many site servers, file and print servers on several locations of the world and centrally managed.
These servers are backuped with Networker, version 7.6.1. The data will be backuped to a tape drive and local employees only have to change the tapes, because there is no local IT available on those sites.
Last week we upgraded Networker from version 7.6.1 to 7.6.3 and had to deal with a major problem.
The data does not fit anymore on the tapes.
We found out that there was a new feature, disaster recovery. On the servers we use quota manager and thats results in that disks of a file server become critical and for that reson are backuped twice.
Because we want to keep the backup within one tape, we need a hint or workaround to get this fixed.
How can we disable the disaster recovery option or how can we foul Networker that only the C drive with Windows on it, will be backuped with this new feater?

Hi Ben,
You can disable the backup of the special DISASTER_RECOVERY:\ save set and instead, backup the regular VSS save sets by adding the VSS:DISASTER_RECOVERY=off keyword to the Save Operations attribute of the NetWorker client resource. When this keyword is set to off and the All save set is specified, the following VSS save sets will be available for online restore operations:
◆ VSS SYSTEM BOOT
◆ VSS SYSTEM SERVICES
◆ VSS SYSTEM FILESET
◆ VSS OTHER
◆ VSS USER DATA
It is recommended that you create a second client resource for the host and set up a scheduled back up of the DISASTER_RECOVERY:\ save set for the second client resource as you may find that taking a disaster recovery backup every two weeks is adequate. However, you want to take Full backups of your data, including VSS system state data, more frequently. So creating another instance for Disaster Recovery ONLY will be suitable solutions and it will ensure that you can perform a Windows DR for the host. That is because for Windows 2008, 2008 R2, and Windows 7, Microsoft only supports disaster recovery that is performed offline ( Which is by recovering the DISASTER_RECOVERY:\ Saveset )
