Exchange and SQL best practice

Hi Guys,

I am intersted in your opinions on this.

If storage is not problem would you suggest to backup up both SQL and EXCHANGE with full schedules everyday of the week?

Or would you still go for the full on friday and incremental any other day?

I know that with the second option data will be fragmeneted over more tapes and restores could take longer with the advantage of backups taking less time.

I am just interested to see what your personal preference is.

Thanks

Full backup everyday is the dream of any Exchange or SQL administrator :)

If your storage capacity, backup window and network traffic can handle that, I don't see why not. But remember that usually every company have or will have problem with those items one day or another, specially when they get low on money to buy new tapes and keep everything at the best performance.

I backup full everyday - because my IS is not very big thus makes it easy to restore if/when I have to. Under the circumstances this I would recommends.

However, all depends on the size of the IS and how long your FULL backup can take.
You also have to consider network traffic if you are backing up over the LAN. So scheduling must be is also a facttor to consider.

yes, we run FULL backups on all of our Exchange servers - close to 3 TB a night.

All Production SQL servers also get FULL backups nightly. Our development SQL servers get a once a week FULL backup.
