GFS backups in Networker

We would like to set up a rotation scheme where we do daily incrementals, weekly fulls and fulls on the first of the month. The catch is all three levles have different retention periods.

I haven't been able to figure out this one. Other software I used allowed this feature.

If you have three different retention values, you'll have to create three instances for the client you want to backup. Then create three different schedules, one for month, one for week and another for daily backups. As an example:

    Instance Schedule Retention

    ClientA MonthSchedule 5years
    ClientA WeekSchedule 1year
    ClientA DaySchedule 1month

Just play a bit with schedules and with retentions and will find a lot of possibilities.

I thought so. You settled a discussion I was having with my peers. I find it suprising that Networker doesn't support something a simple as GFS backups.

    Thanks

Due to the large no. of clients we have to back up we found having multiple instances for each client impractical. What we did is set up one schedule (full on Friday and level 1 the rest of the week) and set the retention period to the maximum that we use.

When tapes came back for rotation and are relabeled, that's when there information is deleted from NW's databases.
