Help! trying to recover Exchange data that is no longer browsable

Question

I am having an issue trying to do a restore for Exchange. The date is no longer browsable. when I do the nsrck -L7 -t date client it goes through but says this:
32222:uasm: Some file attributes were not recovered and after it is done I am still not able to browse the date. I then tried recover -s servername -S ssid and that one did the same thing, still not able to browse the date. Am I doing something wrong? Did I miss a step? Thanks in advance for your help.

If you are on 7.3.x or 7.4.x you may have to perform the steps below to make the
savesets browsable.

1. Identify a saveset containing the index for the desired time/client
2. Adjust the retention of the identified client file index to the future
3 Change mode to notrecyclable for the identified client file index
4. Identify the savesets that we wanted to browse (full backup and all the
following incremental backups prior to the desired date)
5. Set new retention for each of the individual savesets to the future
6. Change mode to notrecyclable for each of the individual savesets
7. Perform the nsrck -L7 -t command
8. Browse and perform the recover as usual

Did you try running scanner -i on the tape that has the data?

I ran scanner -i \.\Tape1 and after it finished I am still not able to browse the date. Some saveset IDs said Synchronized, others showed files written. The savesetID in question just said scan complete. I tried to browse and got the the no entries... then I did a cross check of the index and still get no entries backed up to server. This is starting to get frustrating. Could you confirm that the status of the save set that you are trying to restore, is not in recyclable mode. The point being that if the save set is in recycable mode, nsrck does not restore the index entries for it. You could use nsrmm -o notrecyclable -S to change the saveset from recyclable mode.

Thanks Lorinel. That worked. The missing step was changing the retention on the individual savesets. After doing that I was able to browse and restore it.
