Inventory for tapes with barcode known in the media database is loading tap
Hi,
a customer of mine has the problem when he brings volumes back into
the library with known barcode in media database than all of these
volumes are loaded in a drive and label will be checked again.
This is very time consuming.
He say that he see this issue since istalling EBS 7.3.
Is this works as designed?
I found two docs in Legato Tech. The second one is a BUG/RFE.
Does anybody know when it is fixed?
Maybe the problem is the location field.
Regards,
Andreas

Inventory for tapes with barcode known in the media database is loading tapes in a drive
Note:
Fact: Inventorying media
Fact: NetWorker
Fact: Tape libraries with Barcode Reader
Fact: Barcode reader
Fact: sjirdtag command can see the barcode label on the volume
Symptom: Inventory for tapes with barcode known in the media database is loading tapes in a drive
Cause: Running inventory, after depositing tape with label and barcode known in the media database and with location set to something else than a current jukebox name, NetWorker would load a tape into the tape drive for inventory.
Fix: This is expected behavior for tapes with location set to name different than current jukebox name.
Workaround:
Delete the location of the Tapes before you import the tapes back to the jukebox and before running the inventory.

Symptom: NetWorker is loading the tapes when doing an inventory
Change: The tape were moved from one jukebox to another
Cause: The location field was incorrect
Fix: Three conditions need to be met before NetWorker will not load a tape during inventory:
1) Bar Code Reader is set to yes
2) The location field must be correct
3) The bar code must be present in the Media Database

Customer is using a L25 from Quantum as a library.
In man page and adminguide we find information that only barcode reader should check
the information of affected volumes without mounting these volumes.
I have an example where customer will bring volumes 000188S and 000189S back
into the library.
Here is an mminfo -m and nsrjb -Cv before bring them back into the library.

What I can see that the new barcodes are recogniced by networker but
not matching entry was found in mediadatabase for these barcodes.
We already did an 'nsrck -m' and 'nsrim -X' without success.
Has anybody an idea or indeepth method for troubleshooting?

Andreas

sorry that I don't mentioned before. Customer hat done nsrjb -HEv and than
do an inventory ( nsrjb -Iv). After doing nsrjb -HEv I can see with nsrjb -Cv the
barcodes in the library but get no matching information from the mediadatabes .
We also did a nsrck -m and nsrim -X without success. I try to reproduce it but in
my testenvironment it is working as expected. So I have no idea.

Andreas
