Hello

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for however if you want to temporarily view the files being backed up, and if you are running the backup from a group, then you may run savegrp -vvv -c "Clientname" -G

or even savegrp -D9 -c "Clientname" -G

This will run the group backup and show all the detail on the screen. Also you can have the output to a file as well by adding "> output_filename 2>&1"

Thanks Jstamp!

I came across nsrwatch in my research.

It's seems to be a great tool for monitioring macro activities, like tape mounts and volume details.

I will try it again against a running backup to see if I missed anything but it doesn't appear give me the detail I am looking for.

Occasionally a backup will unexpectedly extend into the workday, doesn't happen often.

When it does it sometimes appears to have halted and I would like a quick way of seeing what files are currently steaming to tape.

I can see from the console that writing is proceeding at x number of MB per second but if possible I would like to see more detail.

If it's not possible, that's OK ... I'll just put this issue to bed.

Hello - The nsrwatch command/program may be used to monitor the present activities of a NW server .

For more detailed information as to how this command works, you may review the NW Command Reference Guide found here >

http://powerlink.emc.com/km/live1/en_US/Offering_Technical/Technical_Documentation/300-009-449.pdf

nsrwatch is described in details on page 268

Thanks.

Thanks Anandkrishna!

That looks like a great command for debugging group backup performance problems.

Had seen this mentioned on another post along with dbgcommand but there was no mention of the output so this is very useful.

I think dbgcommand is the way to go for me for on the fly, real time monitoring and savegrp is the way to go for pre-planned monitoring/debugging.

I will leave this open a while longer but I think I have to put aside my reservations and get dbgcommand from EMC.

Thanks again!!

I gave a cursory check of my system for it with no luck, Holger_Inf.

Doesn't mean it's not there or on the original media.

I will double check ... I close this out since dbgcommand seems to be the way to go for me.

Thanks, All!!!

Anytime Angst.

nsrwatch is a pretty good tool. bear inmind that this however is relegated to Solaris NW environments .

Please feel free to ping me if you have any questions.

Thanks.

John
