MSSQL database instance name and Networker Module

Hi

I have a MSSQL database with 2 instances running in cluster mode. The network names of the virtual servers are rmclsql02\sql02 and

rmclsql01. When adding these virtual clients to networker, i have no problem

with rmclsql01, but when i try to add rmclsql02\sql02 networker finds through the client wizard that is has the sql

module installed but it cannot show the databases...i get a message saying failed to resolve rmclsql02\sql02

i think that it might be a problem related to the name of the instance, with the "\" in it.. could it be this the problem i'm facing?

Networker 7.5 SP3

Networker module for MSSQL 5.2 sp1

Windows 2008 64bit server as OS.

Thanks!

Good morning, Osk!

I am looking for a clear answer to your question - I have a feeeling you may be correct.

Please be sure you have the correct administration guide for the SQL module. I have attached that file to this post.

You can find the latest version to download at

http://powerlink.emc.com/km/appmanager/km/secureDesktop?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=default&internalId=0b014066803873f3&_irrt=true

I will try to get you an answer later today.

Mark

Mark, i think i made a mistake with my question. The network names of the virtual servers are rmclsql01 and rmclsql02. The real

problem is that the first one runs a default database instance, but the second one runs a named database instance, that's why

to access it i have to use rmclsql02\sql02.

Still i dont have a clue how to add this client to networker with the configuration wizard. When i do this using the network name rmclsql02,

i can see in Available applications Filesystem and SQL server, but when i go next i receive an error saying Unable to connect to server.

Any ideas of what's possibly wrong?

Thanks!

That is fine. I have a couple of quick questions that will help me answer this for you. (Actually, it is a co-worker who understands the SQL module better than I do who asked this)

I think the NetWorker wizard won't show the SQL databases, but we should be able to resolve the name.

Thank you!

Hi mark

I just found the solution. I found that when using MSSQL server 2008 and the networker module you have to install a microsoft sql compatibility software.

i did this and problem solved.

Thanks!

Osk,

As we are discussing this, there is a question as to whether or not the cluster server will allow multiple instance. I beleive you can, but my co-worker is not so sure.

Please let us know if you are able to use two instances or not. I would like to have a firm answer on this.

Thank you!

Mark

Osk,

As a reminder, since this is a SQL cluster, there must be a network name for each named instance, which is the name that has to be used.

Mark what we have here is:

Two physical nodes with two virtual servers using MSCluster. We installed a networker client for each physical node

and each virtual server, everyone with their particular IP address and network name. Then in one virtual server we have

a default database instance and in the other one (as our DBA told us) we have a named database instance.

All of this under an active/active configuration. (you can't have two default database instances with MSSQL 2008 and MSCluster).

Greetings

Oskar.
