NDMP Backup configuration

HI,

I am having EMC Celerra NAS NS704G. The auxiliary ports of the Data Movers are zoned to the Storagetek tape library. I am using Networker 7.3 and using Windows 2003 as the Backup Server. I am able to see the tape drive through server_2

server_2 :
Scsi Device Table
name addr type info
gk01 c0t0l0 disk 5 021900000000CK200060200355
gk161 c16t1l9 disk 5 021969001900CK200060200355
gk321 c32t1l9 disk 5 021969001900CK200060200355
gk481 c48t0l0 disk 5 021900000000CK200060200355
jbox1 c256t0l0 jbox STK L80 0215
tape2 c256t0l1 tape HP Ultrium 3-SCSI G27S

I have already edited the file /nas/server/slot_2/param as follows:

param NDMP bufsz=128
param fcTach enable_fabric_aux0=1
param fcTach linx_speed_aux0=0x4000

But when I am running jbconfig from the Backup server I am getting the error:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>jbconfig

Jbconfig is running on host aai-bkup-01 (Windows Server 2003 5.2),
and is using aai-bkup-01 as the NetWorker server.

1) Configure an AlphaStor Library.
2) Configure an Autodetected SCSI Jukebox.
3) Configure an Autodetected NDMP SCSI Jukebox.
4) Configure an SJI Jukebox.
5) Configure an STL Silo.
6) Configure a Microsoft Removable Storage Jukebox.

What kind of Jukebox are you configuring? [1] 3
Enter NDMP Tape Server name: ? server_2
Enter NDMP user name: ? ndmp
Enter on NDMP password (characters will not be echoed):

Communicating to devices on NDMP Server 'server_2', this may take a while...
Scanning SCSI buses; this may take a while ...
jbconfig: Failed to get the hostent for host 'server_2': Unknown error
jbconfig: Couldn't connect to service

There appear to be no SCSI jukeboxes connected to this system.
This could mean the SCSI jukebox(es) are not connected to the system,
cannot be seen (pending a reboot) or have already been configured.
On Windows Systems, this could mean that the SCSI jukebox(es) are
enabled for Microsoft Removable Storage.

Please rerun the program after making the necessary changes.

Pls help me to solve this

Thanks & Regards

Shreejesh.

2 options:
- You should delete jukebox definition and run jbconfig again (assigning the same name to jukebox as before) using option 2).
- You may also wish to use jbedit where you don't have to delete library, but I never used jbedit against NDMP devices so I can't say what is waiting for you

Just to clear something: do you wish to add this as NDMP jukebox or as jukebox controlled by backup server with drives presented via NAS to Celerra filer? Usually people make mistake here and choose 3 over 2. If you are after first option then 3) is correct way. Can you verify you can communicate with server_2 from aai-bkup-01?

Hi

I want to add this as a jukebox controlled by backup server with drives presented via NAS (through fiber channel) to Cellera filer. I am able to ping to the server_2 from aai-bkup-01, the backup server.

Shreejesh.

Hi Hrvoje,

I have already configured the jukebox with option 2 for the backup of other clients and storage nodes earlier and the backups have been running properly. So when I selected again the same option again, it is saying "all jukeboxes have been configured". Is there anyway to configure the NDMP without disturbing the older configurations (without going through the option 2) ?

Shreejesh.

Hi Hrvoje,

I was able to reconfigure the jukebox. Thanks a lot. But I am facing a problem in Networker. I am having a Storagetek L80 Tape Library with 40 slots and 24 slots are filled. But the media in the 8th slot is not getting sensed. In the Devices, only this media is not shown. I am able to label other media .

Thanks,

Shreejesh.

Do:
nsrjb -HvE
nsrjb -IvE (perhaps nsrjb -Iv -S 8 might just work too)

Make sure you have tape there (you could use sjirdtag to verify it).

I am able to see the media in slot 8. But when I labeled it into one pool, I am not getting the expiration date for the media and also this is not being picked for backup.

Shreejesh

When I run the above command, I am getting the error:

nsrjb: Info: Expected volume `-'. The actual volume is `000008'. The jukebox re
source is being updated.
nsrjb: Info: Operation `Eject' in progress on device `rd=del-sql-03:\\.\Tape0'
nsrjb: Info: Unloading volume `000008' from device `rd=del-sql-03:\\.\Tape0' to

That's fine now. If you run nsrjb command now you will see that slot 8 is recognized.

Expiration date should not worry you really.

Not being picked up is another thing. Perhaps it is not picked up becuase there are appendable used tapes available - they will be used before any new one gets.
