Networker 7.4 on Linux Server with HP-UX 11.11 Client Running Very Slow

Hi All,

Legato netwrokers 7.4. It is installed on one Linux Server and many HP-UX Clients. The HP-UX clients are 11.11 and 11.23 system. The problem is present only on two 11.11 system. The backup is 2-3 times slowlier than as the time he used legato networkers 7.22. On another HP-UX 11.11 system where the problem was solved with the istaltion of the newest Quality Pack from June 2007. Ont this two system the problem is still present even after the instalation of QPK. When we downgrade the legato networkers again down to 7.22 there are no problems ,but after the upgrade upto 7.4 the issue appears again. There are also some warnings when the networkers processes get started. These warning went away on the third 11.11 system after the QPK installation.

the warning shown by the startup of the netwroker process is:

967:nsrexecd: Warning: No entropy gathering device detected (used to provide random numbers for authentication). NetWorker will attempt to provide random numbers. These numbers will never be as random as the numbers that could be provided with an entropy gathering device

Can some body help on this.

Thanks.

Try 7.3SP3 for test (just on that client). Keeping 7.2.2 is also not bad thing, but it's big difference in revisions so keep it close would be good idea.

Not that I know... but why is so important for you to move to 7.4?

Actually its not me testing this, my customer wants this and that's the reason i could not test with 7.3

Have you got any idea why this is happening with 7.4.

No idea.. probably 11.11 doesn't have some device or library NW is using. 7.4 seems to be a bit step forward in time so certain older things don't work (eg. I learned on my own skip that 7.4 would not install NT while 7.3SP3 works fine which is after all mentioned in compatibility guide).

why don't you compile random() and make sure nsr sees/uses it.

there are several available versions on the net, try gnu's.

Hi,

As you said it may be problem with Networker 7.4 HP UX11.11 but with same OS and patches on other machine its working fine.

Thats the reason we are unable to traceout actual problem.

Thanks,

Krishna.

Perhaps HP patch was not installed correctly then. Instead of banging the head with this I would suggest to install 7.3SP3 on that box and try it. If it works - great.
