Networker 7.4 Open file, aborted saveset.
Hi guys!
I need some help with Networker..I am starting to work with this tool and is driving me crazy.
I have a big full backup of a folder, around 900GB and the job is running for more than 10 hours.
The problem is when to job finishs.. it appears as failed due to open files and this cause the save set to have the aborted status.
I was monitoring the job and those 2 open files were the only errors..
If I understand corrrectly, you cannot recover from an aborted saveset, so for those 2 open files I lost the whole backup? Is that normal?
Do i have any way to change the status of that save set to browseable?
Well that's my problem.. any idea to fix it..or if not, to prevent it to happend again is most welcome!
Thanks a lot for your help guys!!
Julio.

Hi,
Yes, that's the cause of your error alright. A likely candidate for cutting the connection is that you need a keepalive variable in there:
Check this technical note p. 29 - 'Timeout issues' for a detailed explanation.

Hi,
Are you sure the aborted status is due to the open files? What errors and warnings do you get? You should ensure that the 'Success threshold' in your group properties (Advanced Tab) is set to 'Warning' so that savesets that complete with a warning will be marked successful. Also, if you have files that consistently cannot be backed up, then you may want to skip them in the backup using a directive.

Hey again guys.
I just checked the files on /tmp/sg, the files from yesterday are still there..and seems to be another error there;
1 retry attempted 5197:save: using `D:\Data\root' for `D:\Data\Root'
39078:save: RPC error: RPC send operation failed. A network connection could not be established with the host.
Maybe my problem is related to that one..and no the open files. I am trying to figure out what that means..and what can I do with it!
Again thanks a lot for your quick help!!

Hi Bobby!
Thanks for your help!.. I checked the group status on the monitoring tab and the only errors I found were
the open files, so I am quite sure that's the reason of the failure. You will find the errors below.
I also checked my group properties and the success treshold is set to Warning, the only other option available is success..
I am now re running the backup but it will be very frustrating if it fail again after 15 hours and only for 2 files.
Any other comment is most welcome!
Errors on the group status:
: File D:\Data\root\filename.xlsx could not be opened and was not backed up. (The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)
: warning while saving D:\Data\root\filename.xlsx
: File D:\Data\root\filename_2.xlsx could not be opened and was not backed up. (The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)
: warning while saving D:\Data\root\filename_2.xlsx

Hi,
I don't think this is the reason for your aborted saveset. If the new backup fails, check the /tmp/sg/[group name] file to try to see if there's more details around the failure. You should also check if it's failing after the same period of time or on the same files as before which might give you a better idea of what's causing the problem. If you can't work out why it's failing, I would advise splitting it up into smaller chunks as a test to see if this succeeds and if not, to pinpoint the common factor in the failures.

Thanks a lot for your help Bobby!
I just read the note on the PDF and I will try that, the backup complete successfully today, so it is probably related to the timeout issue.
Again thanks for your help Bobby!
