NetWorker support for Oracle Exadata

Hello,

Curious about EMC NetWorker support for Oracle Exadata?  The answer is yes!  Below is a cut out from the NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications (NMDA) administration guide for an overview:

Oracle Exadata support

NMDA supports Oracle Exadata in both of the following configurations:

◆ Oracle Database Machine

◆ Exadata Storage Server attached to an external database server

The versions of the operating system and database software supported on database servers using Exadata storage are subject to the versions supported on traditional systems (systems not using Exadata storage).

The NMDA and NetWorker client software should be installed and configured on all the Exadata database servers, similar to traditional systems. In the case of a remote storage node, the only protocol supported to the storage node is IP over Infiniband or other networks like Ethernet. (Native Infiniband or any other protocol is not supported).

If there are multiple network (IP) interfaces on the database server to the storage node, such as one for an Infiniband connection and one for an Ethernet connection, the network settings and the NetWorker Client resource should be configured to send the backup data from the database servers to the storage node over the Infiniband network, as preferred. The configuration details are available in the NetWorker documentation.

Thanks,

Allan
