Networker upgrade from 7.3.2 to 7.4

Hi everyone,

Currently we have a Networker 7.3.2 backup system for Documentum 5.3. Also, now we have another documentum D6 system, and we would like to upgrade the Networker 7.3.2 to 7.4 to backup both Documentum 5.3 and D6.

What are the steps that I have to do???
1. Upgrade Networker server + client from 7.3.2 to 7.4. (on the Networker server host).
2. Upgrade Networker Module for Documentum from 1.1 to 1.2. and Networker client from 7.3.2 to (on the Content Server host).
3. Upgrade Networker Module for SQL from 5.0 to 5.1 and networker client from 7.3.2 to 7.4 (on the SQL server host).
4. Upgrade Networker client from 7.3.2 to 7.4 (on Index Server host).

We have a Dell SCSI tape library is attached to the Networker server, so is it required to also install or upgrade the "networker storage node"??? I don't really know whether it was installed with "storage node". How do I check to see whether the Networker server host was installed with "networker storage node" selection?
(or not required).

Thanks

As you had said the tape library is attached with the server, so the backup server is working as the storage node too. The Networker server + client version has all the three components within itself, i.e; it is server , storage node and client, all in one.

I didnt get your 4th point upgradation on Index Server host, are you talking about the client or you have another server as Index server.

other then that the way you have written how to go with the upgradation is fine...

there shouldn't be any problems

Ideally you should upgrade all clients, storage node & server to the new version in a single attempt starting from server to storage nodes(if other than server) & then the clients.

For upgradation from 7.2 to 7.4, EMC recommends removing & reinstalling all modules also but from 7.3 to 7.4, you can continue as it is. In fact, I would not be confident of upgrading SQL module to 5.1 as I have seen that if backup server is version 7.3.4, 7.4.1 or 7.4.2 and SQL or Exchange module 5.1, you get strange characters in logs & email alerts. EMC Support has not been able to help resolve it on 7.4.2 though they claim a patch for 7.3.4 but I am yet to receive it.

Interestingly, in one of the setups I have 7.3.4 server. For SQL clients .0, I get proper logs & Alerts but for SQL module 5.1, he logs and alerts have strange characters.
