Hi All -

I recently upgraded my networker server and storage node to 8sp1 in the hopes of using VADP backups for my VMs.  Everything is setup and works except for one issue, about 20% of my backups leave snapshot files behind after they complete.

When I view the event log for the VM with the leftover snapshots it says "virtual machine disks consolidation failed".  After talking with support our VMware administrator had to restart the management services on each host before he could consolidate the disks.  He was told by support that they have been receiving many calls about this issue and it is not backup vendor specific, that it is a wide issue.

Am I crazy for thinking there must be something else going on in my environment?  I can't imagine EMC or any other vendor would be promoting the snapshot API's if there is a high chance there will be issues with disk consolidation.

Here is a summary of my enviroment:

EMC Networker 8sp1

Networker server:Windows 2008 R2

Storage node:Windows 2008R2

Using NBD transport mode, previously used SAN transport but still had the same issue.

6 physical hosts, 175 VM's ESXi 5.1

Anybody else having these issues?  If this really is a prevelant issue I can't imagine I am the only one having this issue.  I am at wits end with this so any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
