nmm 8.2 :"SQL server" backup application type does not appear during client configuration
Hi guys,
env: NW 8.2 sp2
MS SQL : 2008 R2
NMM : 8.2
I am trying to configure a MSSQL scheduled backup.
steps:
1)NMC -> New Client wizard -> enter the win2008 hostname
the host is properly recognized as a windows 2008 client
2)I choose "traditional Networker Client"
However the "SQL server" option does not appear
FYI : manual backup works fine and mssql recover as well.
a screenshot is attached.
Thanks for your help.
JJ.

That doesn't look like screenshot to me. It looks more like shortcut to NMC and inside we see IP address of your NMC server
Top of my head, wizard won't work if module was not registered correctly or if you disallowed nsrauth. But in reality, configuring SQL backup is way faster by doing it manually by creating client, typing ssid and placing nsrsqlsv as backup command then running wizard (even if it works).

Hi JJ,
just to avoid a simple mistake, did you install the NetWorker NMM (NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications) module?
The latest version (8.2.2) is available here: ftp://ftp.legato.com/pub/NetWorker/NMM/Cumulative_Hotfixes/8.2.2/
Regards
Michael

Well, he did say NMM 8.2 was installed plus he also said backup and restore manually of SQL were ok meaning it is there.

Hi Hrvoje,
1)I have followed your advice and managed to perform successfully a scheduled backup :
Client Configuration
saveset : MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS:TESTDB
backup command : nsrsqlsv
Note : However I also had to specify the TCP port 1433 in the sql configuration manager
2)Another question:
the "SQL server" option is still missing when using "new client wizard"
Any particular settings to resolve that ? ( NSRLA ... )
Thanks.
JJ.

I really have no idea as I do not use wizard. Is this real SQL you use or SQL Express? My experience is based on only or real one and it might be that wizard does not work with express edition.

Hi jj1970
This issue is most likely because the SQL Remote Agent is not registered on the SQL servers.
To do it so please open a command prompt as Administrator, in the SQL servers and go to the bin directory (by defauler C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\bin)
and run the following command:
nsrnmsqlra -i
After that please try to use the client wizard again as this change is on the fly and doesn't need services to be restarted.
Thank you,
Carlos

Hi,
Please note that it is nsrNMSQL, not nsrNMM. It gets installed by default, so please look again, as it has to be there.
This is the binary that registers the SQL Remote Agent, and it is required to use the client wizard for the application based backups.
Thank you,
Carlos
