Please confirm if you are writing the module backups to Data Domain type devices.

As per the support docs "The client direct functionality is only available when using a Data Domain device, and is not available for other devices"

backups are directed do AFTD device.

What support docs do you mean? In Administration Guide NMM 2.4 is DFA mentioned only in relationship with deduplication. I am not using deduplication.

Release notes for Networker 8.0 says about DFA -

"Client Direct, also known as direct file access (DFA), is a NetWorker feature that enables clients to send backup data over an IP network directly to AFTD or DD Boost storage devices, bypassing the NetWorker storage node. ...... For Data Domain systems, the Client Direct feature leverages the DD Boost DSP component, which is installed as part of the NetWorker 8.0 client software."

So I suppose client direct feature should work overall with modules. Or the module is not completely integrated into Networker core?

Hi Martin,

Yes, with NW 8 and NMM 2.4 you can use the client wizard to configure NMM clients.

You can also use DFA and DD backups configuration both through the wizard and manually as well.

I am trying backup NMM client to AFTD device with DFA feature, but it does not work, the storage node is every time used. The same result we achieve with MSSQL backup (nsrsqlsv.exe save command). It seems to me, the DFA feature works only with standard client (save.exe command) and not with modules. The only one option how to backup directly do disk device with module is when we use Data Domain, but only in combination with DD Boost and only DD Boost supported modules.

I am using different configurations. Some clients have nsrserverhost as storage node, other are using another storage node. Yes some NMM clients are storage nodes, but only dedicated storage nodes.

Hi Carlos I'm working on the same but using NMDA ... I need to save on ADFT using DFA, for the filesystem backup DFA works correctly: I'm able to write on ADFT using DFA. Using the same client but configured for Oracle backup data are moved via storage node and not directly on ADFT .

I tried to verify NSR_DIRECT_ACCESS parameters on RMAN script but it doesn't work ..

Which NMDA and NW version do you use?

Networker is 8.1.1.8.Build.349, NMDA is 1.6.0.2 this client is a Zlinux OS.

Is DDBoost supported on zSeries with Oracle?

this is DFA on ADFT not ddboost (not supported).

Same thing (same mechanism) so question remains if DFA via NMDA with zSeries is supported (with Intel surely is).  Next, you mentioned NSR_DIRECT_ACCESS in RMAN script - this is not set in RMAN script, but rather config files (see /nsr/apps/config).

following doc you need just to set Direct Client on client definition ... but doesn't work. So I tested NSR_DIRECT_ACCESS on rman script (you can put parameters in RMAN script using send) and config files.
