NW Server upgrade from Win2K3 to Win2K8
Hi Team,
We are planning to upgrade our NW server running on Win2K3 with NW 7.6.3 to Win2K8 R2 SP1 with NW 8.0. Also, our NW server and Console server is same and we need to retain all the backup policies and all configuration data.
Can you please suggest step by step procedure for this migration to happen successfully?
Regards,
Pratik.

Hi Pratik,
You should download and use the NetWorker Procedure Generator from here:
https://support.emc.com/products/1095_NetWorker - click on 'Tools'
This will give you a step-by-step document on what you need to do for both your migration and upgrade. As Hrvoje said, don't do both at the same time - be sure that the first operation went ok, then do the second.

I would suggest not to do both at the same time. Do upgrade OS first and then application once you are sure everything went well with OS upgrade.

Hi Bobby / Hrvoje,
Thanks for your prompt reply. Please suggest what procedure should we follow to upgrade the server from Win2k3 to Win2k8 R2 SP1 (Assuming that we will use same version of NW).

- stop nw
- disable service from running
- copy NSR to some other machine
- place CD/DVD and run setup for win2k8
- once done, enable services back to original state and run them
- check logs
- make test restore on backup server
If all is ok, you are done with OS part.
