Problem with nsrpush service in NetWorker 7.6.1.2 build 436

Please log into Powerlink, then navigate to Support > Technical Documentation and Advisories > Software ~ J-O ~ Documentation > NetWorker Family > NetWorker > 7.6 & Service Packs. In the main section please locate the NetWorker 7.6 Service Pack 1 Command Reference Guide.

In the guide, locate the section on nsrpush. Look at the following options:

–i  Probes all specified NetWorker clients in a datazone to determine what EMC software is installed on each client. This step is required before a NetWorker client can be upgraded.

u Upgrades NetWorker Clients software. It is required to do an inventory of the client before an upgrade.–

p product –This option may be used in conjunction with repository and upgrade operations to specify the product name.

Upgrading Clients from the Networker Server

To upgrade clients, use the

–u option:

nsrpush -u – p NetWorker – v 7.6.1 client_name

Please test this and see if it works. Let us know the results.

yeah, I got similar response from customer support. It seems I don't describe the problem well enough.

I have used the nsrpush service in previous versions of NetWorker, and I've read the documentation.

In this case I do run nsrpush -i clientname

and if I then do nsrpush -s it will show me that only the client binaries are installed for NetWorker 7.5.3. Not the server or storage node binaries like this:

     NetWorker 7.5.3
                English Language Pack
                Language Packs
                Client

Then I run the nsrpush to update the client binaries. It succeeds,and I run

nsrpush -i clientname

again, and then

nsrpush -s clientname

it will show me that the client now has the client binaries as well as the storage node, license server and server binaries.

     NetWorker 7.6.1
                Storage Node
                License Manager
                Server
                Language Packs
                English Language Pack
                Client

In services.msc on the client the NetWorker Backup and Recover server service is now installed.

Hi,

We have had another report of the same problem and this is currently being investigated by NetWorker Engineering (reference - NW125727 "Software administration wizard in 7.6.1.2 upgrades Networker client and installs server / license manager package on clients").  You can track the progress of this through your Service Request.  The reproduction testing has indicated that the problem is only present with the distribution of 7.6.1.2 and not with 7.6.1.  The other user is on windows also, so this may be windows-specific.

Do you know what build of NetWorker contains the fix?

As far as I know, this is the location for the lates hotfixes on NetWorker 7.6.

The newest NetWorker version there is 7.6.1.2 build 436. That's excactly the version installed on the NetWorker server and it's also the version I'm trying to use with nsrpush.

Also, there is nothing mentioning this bug in the ready file for this build.

If you can help me get the fix it would be highly appreciated.

Hi,

You should download the 7.6.1.2 build 436 again and test.  The build version is the same but there has been a modification in the binaries to remove the offending code that was causing this problem on windows.

I downloaded the same build again and added it to the repository. I left the NetWorker server installation unchanged, just changed the repository.

The nsrpush service now works as expected. I see not problem with it.
