Problems jukebox "Incompatible Medium" on NW 7.3.2 with SL500, Solaris 8

This message is just parsed by NW. In reality this message is sent by library itself. Library is using set of standard signals known as ASC/ASCQ codes and in this case this one is 30h/00h. Library may reports this under different circumstances like having wrong wrong barcodes or media type which does like each other (one such occasion that I'm aware was when Cleaning tape was used by Seagate against IBM drives - CLNS vs CLNI - not that this is your case of course).

I would inspect what you have really in library and its barcodes. If you try the same operation from library panel I believe you will get the same error.

I will go on-site and check the library. If this is a message not from NW I will try to look in SL500.
But it is stange that at first NW nsrd deamon says : "media info: Jukebox `SL500' Hardware status of jukebox 'SL500' is 'ready'?.
Meanwhile the library checks the cartridges by barcodes and then operate with it. If I corectly understood your post. So if I try to make operation with madia with not right barcode I could expect similar error?

When your start NW (and when you configure jukebox) two daemons are spawned and they start monitor library (first step is inventory). When that is done NW will give you the "ready" state (if you already have library configured you can see that via nsrjb command which may tell you library is in ready or no ready state). That state is not parsed by library, but it is triggered by NW itself.

Yes, if barcode is for another media type library may give you that error.

The porblem seems to be more serious. I went on site and saw that there were LTO2 tapes with LTO3 labels. We corrected the mistake but the problem wasn't solve. I reconfigured the jukebox and the then start hte label operations. And it failed. The tape went to the drive and after that it wasn't possible to eject it. Here is the output from daemon.log.

I decide that there should be a problem with HW, and do the commands inguire and mt -f status for the drive. It was a big surprise for me! NW find drives and configure the library but the server says the threre's no such device or path.
Has anybody know what is the problem?

Please advise, i think it is a Solaris 8 and E4900 issue, but if you know something about it please help!

When I look at daemon.log one thing that is possible is that order of devices has changed, but then mt check of devices does yield interesting results. inquire finds what exists on the system... it might have been out of cache so to eliminate that do inquire -cl

i tried the inquire -cl and it taken so much time. and came out with

any sugestion

So what did you expect to respond on address 1.1.0?

Before you do that let me suggest that you reset the jukebox or - worst case - toggle the power switch.

Then retry the operation.
