Quantum DXi 6701 VTL and PTT

Hi.

I am setting up a new solution for a customer. The plan is to use a Quantum DXi 6701 VTL, and connect a HP Physical Tape Library through FC on the DXi, and use the Path-to-tape feature for offsite tape storage. I have some questions regarding this setup.

I have installed networker server and client on a brand new physical server, and connected the DXi to the server with FC cables.

When i read the guides for setting this up, it seems i need to add the Quantum DXi box as a NDMP storage node, is there any point in the FC connection to the server then? Do i need to do only NDMP backups to the DXi for the PTT to work? Or is only NDMP needed when cloning from VTL to FTL?

The server finds the VTL's as physical drives, because of the FC connection. Should i backup to these physical drives? What about the DXI storage node with the same drives?

Also, when i add the DXi as a NDMP device, i can see the different partitions in the library, but the physical drives just appear as drives, not as libraries?

How is this supposed to work?
