Recovering media created with another Networker server

Question

hi all

We have actually backups on LTO2 media which were created with a Networker server on a HP Proliant and a HP MSL Library with 1 drive

Our actual networker server is a IBM Server with a IBM LT03 Library with 2 drives which backup way more servers than the old one backup server

I wanna restore a file from an old backup which was created with the old server but my networker resceller told me that if I do that, I will erase the configuration of the new server because of the bootstraps which are on the LTO2 media.

Can somebody confirm this?
How can I do to restore old media ?

You need to scan old media in via scanner command. If you know where the data is than better - scan only those tapes.

My problem is that my resceller told me that if I scan the old media in my new server, I will erase the configuration of my new server and replace it with the old one because of the bootstrap. And I DON'T want this to happen as the configuration is way more complex on the new one with new licences, configuration to backup cluster servers and so on

Are you sure that if I inventory an old media, it will not destroy the configuration of the new server?

Nonsense You are not going to scan resources, but data volumes and information (index and media db) on that and simply populate existing media db and index db. The only way when you would destroy it would be if you used mmrecov using bootstrap from old server and that is not what you are after. After all, read the manual for scanner command and see it for yourself.

Ok thanks, I will read it to be 100% sure.It appears nonsense too to me but as Networker is sometimes a bit strange, I just wanted to be sure.
