RMAN restore/recover Sessions

Hi,

Recently i was involved in Oracle RMAN DB restore/recover activity and i got a situation where i have to restore many DB for one single server.

I have couple of questions about RMAN recovery session with EMC networker.

1.  How many RMAN [recover/restore] sessions i can start ? if DB servers contains many DB or should i restore/recover [RMAN] them one by one - is there any limitation?

2. Is there any license which could extend the limitation [ if there is limitation] about RMAN sessions?

if anyone has experience such situation , please share your thoughts - might we would have some interesting info about RMAN restore.

Thanks!!

Aman

So, if I understood correctly, you have two VTLs which are mirroring each other (or one is mirroring itself) and you are building DR backup server based on production image and use replica VTL data to restore.  That alone has nothing to do with channels as your "replica environment" should be the same as production one.  Let's see the error you get

I am assuming you are using NMDA here.

The question is that can you run multiple RMAN restores at the same time? If you say yes, then NetWorker support it too. Cause in Oracle the RMAN ultimately controls the backup and restore process.

As for your second question,No. There is no license to increase RMAN session. You can however go to the field "Parallelism" under "Globals 1 of 2" in the client properties.

I posted my reply to your first post in separate forum (see RMAN Recover session.).  However, you managed to confuse us now with NMDA is not used (I guess the only other thing you could use is NMO which is old and not much changes in respect to channels there).  You also mentioned "some errors" and your whole description about the problem is a bit foggy - I would suggest to write down exactly what happened as that might give us more clue about your problem and eventually what you could change.

Hrvoje, thanks for reply,

Well, my question was simple that is it possible to make multiple RMAN session for multiple DB's for a single server to Networker?

About my Setup: i am getting backup on VTL which is replica of Prod. VTL [VTL <=tcp/ip=>VTL]  and after i am rebuilding whole netwoker [Bootstrap conf.] server configuration to get data or recover from VTL and it is indeed OFFLINE networker solution.

in my coming post, i will post exact error which i faced during multiple RMAN sessions for multiple DB's - But for one server.

Thanks!!

Aman
