Savegroup runs forever
Hi,
I have a problem with a NW server NetWorker 7.6.1.4.Build.459 Enterprise Edition and a client with the same version.
The client backup starts at, after a while it stops writing on the tape. Due to inactivity timeout, I can see in the daemonlog:
2506 11/25/2011 11:27:48 AM nsrd media notice: Save set (4124006437) fptitivwxpp16:R:\ volume DITTOR05.002 on \\DITTOR05BKRP010\dittor05r is being terminated because: inactivity timeout

42506 11/25/2011 11:28:25 AM nsrd write completion notice: Writing to volume DITTOR05.002 completed
On the client side the save process still runs and I do not see any activity ( no read I/O from the save process ) but the savegroup still is in place on the server.
The backup runs for really a long time and at the end I aborted it.
Any idea concerning this problem ? The backup worked fine in the past and database backup on the same server runs ok.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion.
Best regards
PierPa

You might have bad disk spot or file system. In such case, backup should fail during when accessing same file. You can verify that by either checking resource monitor on client to see where save is stuck or by running save in debug 5 mode for couple of times for affected drive and see where it hangs.

I should mention that the backups are level 5 differentials, so second successful attempt would have been backing up the same files as the previous failed attempt. Also will make clear that the first backup doesn't seem to hang, it just runs slowly, amount of data backed up slowly increments etc. Does this sound like the problem you're experiencing?

I'm experiencing similar issues, I'm using Networker 7.6.2.1 Linux x64 server , with Windows clients, I've noticed a backup will sometimes run all night really slowly, flooding daemon.raw with
nsrmmd #1: save set ??? for client ??? was aborted and removed from volume ???

The backup will eventually fail and restart automatically (Due to my group settings) and run through fine at usual speed! Just thought I'd mention it, Would suggest its not client filesystem corruption/hardware failure, what do you think?
