Snapimage 2.5 and NDMP Tapeserver
Hi,
We have the following scenario: W2K8 file server with 8 million files (to be used as Snapimage client) and a W2K8 Storage Node (NDMP Tapeserver). Admin guide of 2.0 version says: "The SnapImage software is installed on all SnapImage clients that the NetWorker server backs up. The NDMP TapeServer is a required product that must be installed and licensed on the SnapImage client in addition to the SnapImage software. If storage devices are attached to a remote host, then the NDMP TapeServer must be installed and licensed on the SnapImage client and on the host with the storage devices attached". Well, do I need only one or two NDMP Tapeserver licensed in my scenario?
On the other hand, for new 2.5 version, I've only found Snapimage Module software. NDMP Tapeserver still at 2.0.2 version, and supports only W2K and W2K3. What about Tapeserver and W2K8?
Regards
Claudio

Things are bit different between SnapImage V2.5 and V2.0.2. so you first need to determine which you want to install.
For example:
With SnapImage V2.0.2 License Manager is required and the SnapImage and NDMPsvc license MUST be entered using License Manager. With SnapImage V2.5, this is no longer the case and the licenses can be entered into the NMC Registrations.
With SnapImage V2.0.2 you must install NDMP Service first, followed by SnapImage. With V2.5 it is one package.
As far as required licenses for V2.5, you need oneNDMP Client Connection License and one SnapImage license all entered under Server registration GUI in NMC
Hope the above helps.

Hi,
Excelent!!! I'll install 2.5 version, of course (2.0.2 are very older, and has various restrictions). In the specified scenario, do I need to install some piece of SW at Storage Node (file server is only client, doesn't has access to SAN)?
