Throughput issue in a Direct-access import recover

Hi all,

We are having a throughput issue when we try to restore (direct-access import procedure) information from a physical tape that was written to STK L700 before installing NetApp VTL700. The data transfer is less than 200KBs. Nevertheless if the physical tape that we need to restore was previously exported from VTL to STK L700 the throughput is 10 MBs.

NetApp says us it's a NetWorker problem but we don't think so because to improve the restores we import this volumes into a ADIC i500 physical jukebox and run the restore from there. Thus the throughput is good.

Has anybody had a similar problem? Could it be a compression issue between physical drive and VTL?

Thanks a lot.

Is that VTL supported (tested) by EMC? I have seen many strange issues reported by people using NetApp VTL on this forum. Anyway, if you get performance when reading tape through VTL I guess there should be some sort of measuring tool which would give you the figures between different points so you could see where bottleneck is.
