Unable to connect to server - MSSQL module for networker 7.5 SP3
Hello
I'm having a weird problem related to the Networker SQL server module 5.2 SP1. My networker server and my clients use
Networker 7.5 SP3 and are all windows 2008 x64 based. The sql server uses sql server 2008.
When i try to add the sql server client in the NMC to use the networker MSSQL module installed on the sql client,
I type in the FQDN name (I'm making sure that the NetWorker server can resolve the name and click next. Here it says to
Specify the Backup Configuration Type (and it tells me that the client
operating system is "Windows NT Server on Intel" and that the NetWorker
version is: 7.5.3 Build 514 and that the available applications are
the filesystem and SQL server. Here i choose SQL server and click Next and it should take me to the "Select the Client
Properties". But it doesn't happen because I get an (not so detailed) error
that states "Unable to connect to server" and the wizard exits.
I get no logs in Event Viewer.
Again: Both client and server can resolve eachother's ip from FQDN.
Any ideas? could it be database permissions related???
ThanksNo Events found!

I would suggest first seeing if you are able to configure and run a file system backup from that server, which would confirm the network connectivity was okay. I suspect there may be some issues with name resolution - have you tried forward and reverse lookups of both long and short names from both client and server?

Hi david
thanks for your reply but i solved the problem. i read at the MSSQL module installation guide that networker has problems
using the client configuration wizard with sql server 2008. The solution was to download a package
called microsoft sql server 2005 backward compatibilty components from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C6C3E9EF-BA29-4A43-8D69-A2BED18FE73C&displaylang=en
and install it on the sql server 2008. After that i added the sql server module as a client using the configuration wizard without problems.
Greetings
Oskar.
