VADP Backup leaving some snapshot trace in Datastore

Hello,

we are experienced some strange conscequence of VADP backup.

For some reason (backup failed?) we still have some vmdk file in the datastore of the VM.

Example:

1) We start a VADP backup

2) Service account Networker take a snapshot for VMA (two file, VMA.vmdk + snapshot file .vmsn + file VMA-000001.vmdk).

3) Backups happens

4) For some reason at the end of the backup (I don't know exactly what's happening there), the snapshot is removing (no more snapshot in vCenter snapshot manager), but file VMA-00001.vmdk still there.

Is anyone has experienced that?

We are using vCenter version 4.1 and Networker 7.6.4.1, all on Windows 2008 R2 Sp1

Thanks for your help.

Also encourage to run ESXi 5.0 U1 for better snapshot celanups.

Was the backup done using HOTADD?

Also, this would need investigation into the VMware logs, specifically

Within the datastore: vmware.log [Look for 'consolidate disks']

on the ESX/ESXi host's hostd.log [Look for 'SnapshotConsolidateOpenDisks' ]

The relevant errors in the above logs will help find the actual situation, such as a lock.

Cheers!

Hello,

No the backup was done using SAN.

For the log, I check that and give you my result.

Thanks for your answer.

Hi,

We have extracted the vmware and host log. But I didn't found the message that you've mentionned in your post.

Here are attached the two logs from vmWare.

I don't have any idea of what I'm supposed to look for.

Thanks for your help.

Have you been able to find a solution to the left over snapshot problem? We are running NW server 7.6.3 and

Networker Storage node 7.6.2.7 on windows 2008 R2.

Thanks!

Unfortunatly, no...We control manually that no snapshot stay in Datastore. If you have any Idea, welcome! It's seem to work better with vSphere 5.

Recently resolved snapshot issues:
1. For networker:Resolved in 7.6.3(build 1070)

NW142426 ESC  VADP: snapshot files are not removed after image level SAN mode restore with more than 1 disk.

2. For VDDK kit: Fixed in 5.0 update1:
Snapshot consolidation failure when cleaning up after HotAdd backup.

Suggestions:
Ensure networker version 7.6.4.3 or 8.0.0.4 or newer is installed on proxy

Contact support to request procedure for applying "VDDK 5.0 update 1", reference esg131694

Let me know if this helps.
