6224 not getting to internet on vlan-111

Question

Unable to get to the internet, ran tracert, and when it does respond it shows 192.168.98.254 as next hop.  not good.

On switch port 8 is vlan-1  management port   192.168.2.0/24

on switch port 5 is vlan-111  end-users             192.168.111.0/24

on switch port 21 is vlan-98  Mitel voip phones  (not active yet)    192.168.98.0/24

I did not mean to imply that you need another switch.  In my diagram example switch 2 is your firewall.

You will need to set up another VLAN strictly for your connection to your upstream router (towards the internet). This way you will have subnet in between the two routing devices. Then the physical port that is connecting to the upstream device will have a switchport mode access for the new VLAN.

What is the ip on your upstream router? The new VLAN will need to be in that same subnet range.

Then your default ip route would point to that. It VLAN 111 happens to be in the same range of what your new VLAN needs to be then you will need to change the address range to something in a new subnet range.

The upstream router, has IP 192.168.111.1 which is same range as vlan-111 where end-users are.

This is the current port connected the the upstream router;

The port you have referenced above (interface ethernet 1/g1) you will need to leave it as it is. Then the rest of the configuration on the switch that has VLAN 111 associated with it will need to change to a different VLAN say 100 (whatever your choose). You need to change all the other ports that are VLAN 111 to VLAN100. You will need to set the IP address on VLAN 100 to a different subnet range other than the 192.168.111.0.

If we look at the diagram below VLAN 111 needs to only exist between the 2 routers. Switch 1 would represent your 6224 and switch 2 would represent your upstream router to the internet. Then VLAN 100 and 98 would be represented by the 2 different end devices.

This command would send any traffic that does not have a path defined in the routing table to the upstream router then to the internet.

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 (next hop router address) or in your case

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.111.1
