Alternative methods for interconnecting 4 PowerSwitches S4148F-ON
Hi everyone,
Hope everything's ok!
I would really appreciate your support to provide me with ideas regarding the below mentioned:
- I currently have 2 PowerSwitches and I am purchasing additional 2 for a huge project.
- Current switches are uplinked to a core switch directly, and the new switches will not have any uplinks to core switch.
- I would like to distribute all the workloads amongst the four switches. (it doesn't need to have 1 connection per switch, maybe 2 connections for the old and 2 connections for the new; is doable)
- Currently I have VLT domain 1 on the old PowerSwitches and the new one will have a new VLT domain.
Is it possible to set all switches in the same VLT domain or should I connect the old switches to the new switches using port channels as if they were aggregation layer and leaf layer? Keeping in mind that all switches are leaf switches.
Thank you so much!

Hello,
You can check the VLT Reference Architecture Guide. Page 12-13 (document linked below). It has a section about configuring 4 switches in eVLT.
For Enhanced Virtual Link Trunking (eVLT), the VLT domain ID is the same on each pair of switches within the eVLT setup. However, each VLT pair should have a unique VLT domain ID to avoid conflicts. This means that while the domain ID is the same within each pair, it should be different between the two pairs in the eVLT configuration.
eVLT in Dell SmartFabric OS10 Data Center Interconnect (DCI) between VLT domains is supported in Dell SmartFabric OS10 with the VRRP feature across the VLT domains (eVLT). With SmartFabric OS10, VRRP can be configured for dual VLT domains to form an eVLT topology, as shown in the figure page 13.
The same VRRP group-id enables a common virtual IP address across both the VLT domains. Therefore, VM migration from DC-1 to DC-2 can be initiated without any dependency while retaining the VM IP address and gateway IP address.

Initial deployments for huge projects are not support on the forum. We do have Deployment Services you can contact Dell Sales for quote and purchase if you need that.
I hope the information is helpful to you.

Hello Charles,
Thank you so much for your prompt response.
However, this is not the case currently; we want to do something similar to Cisco VPC for the switches to act as one switch (active/active). Is it OK if we configure port channels on the links connecting the switches between each other?

Hi,
Unfortunately, by default we can have only 2 switches in a VLT domain and we cannot connect additional switches to existing VLT domain. We will need to create two VLT domains respectively (E-VLT domain) as mentioned by Charles.
This reference will be similar with the one Charles provided: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/dell-emc-os-9/s5048f-on-9.14.2.5-config-pub/evlt-configuration-example?guid=guid-648a84fb-6670-4414-a4a1-440fcf62990a&lang=en-us
