configuring 5324

I'm hoping this is a relatively straight forward question to answer. I'm trying to do an initial configuration of a power connect 5324. I've connected the bugger to a pc running windows xp that is running hyper terminal (followed all instructions for setting up the terminal emulation software) and booted up the switch. The post information shows up on the hyper terminal screen, however, nothing that I type is echoed back to the screen, e.g., once post has completed and the console> prompt is available, I attempt to enter enable, but my keyboard input is not displayed on screen.

Hyper terminal's troubleshooting guide indicates that this is a problem with the device not being set to echo input. Is there something that I've missed in terms of setting up the hyperterminal preferences...???
thanks!

Hm, I have never had to set anything out of the ordinary up to configure my Dell switches. I (personally) loathe Hyperterminal, though.

I use TerraTerm Pro, which is an ancient, but free, terminal emulator. Give that a whirl and see if you have the same problems.

I use PUTTY  which is also a free software. I do it in telnet option.
Agreed, hyperterm is a joke.
