creating VLANS on PowerConnect 2724

I have a server farm of 8 servers that i am going to plug into my 2724 switch and i am going to hook up 3 other switches to the 2724.  I need help with creating VLANS. I created 1 vlan for each switch and tagged the ports that they will be plugged into.  Will this eliminate broadcast traffic from going onto the switches in the VLANS connected to the 2724.  Also what are LAG memberships and do i need to use them.  I would appreciate any help that anyone could give me!

I think I may need to see a network diagram of what you are trying to do and a better list of requirements to fully answer this question.  For example, when you said you created a VLAN for each switch, do you mean that you created a VLAN for each of the other 3 switches connected to the 2724?  So are these VLANs completely different then the VLAN used on the server?  When you connected these other switches to the 2724 do you want traffic from the servers going to those switches?  If they are on different VLANs then the traffic from the servers won't get on those other switches which may not be what you intended.  If you wanted some to split the servers traffic so some goes on one switch and some goes on another switch then you can use VLANs to segragate the traffic but then you need to trunk the VLANs to the appropriate switches.  Also do those other switches support VLAN?  If not then it may not work properly.

Anyway, as you can see there are lots of issues to consider so you probably need clarify your questions before I can help.

As for your questions on LAG (Link Aggregation Group).  This is typically used between two switches when you need to connect more then one port between the switches to increase the capacity between the switches.  For example, let's say that the highest speed link between two switches is 1Gbs.  If you decided that you actually needed 2 Gbs between these switches you could connect two ports between the switches but if you did that you would create a bridging loop and if STP is on one of those port would be disabled by the system and you still only have 1Gbs between the switches.  So if you still need 2Gbs you need to LAG these two ports together so that they operate as a single logical port.  Now there is no bridging loop and the STP won't disable the port.  In the above link you will find some papers on LAG.
