Dell 582rr KVM problems
Hi, I recenlty aquired a Dell 582rr KVM also known as a Avocent Outlook 2160se. My problem is the monitor will keep flashing on and off, I read online that this could be that it is in scan mode and to access the command window. The keyboard will also not work, when I turn the KVM on all the lights flash on and then off on the keyboard and thats it. Once the server is loaded the keyboard wont work, the monitor flashes on and off so I cant access the command window. Is there a way to hard reset the kvm (it came from a working enviroment so has old settings in it).
Thanks Baz

I am having the same problem with one of these units that I bought new, used for two years, packed up and now have pulled to reuse. Has anyone figured out what is causing this or what resolutions might be possible?

Being that you are not able to get to the command line section what you can do is press the reset button on the back panel of the switch. I am also including the user guide so if you have any other questions feel free to review.

The section that talks about the reset part is at the bottom of page 34. If you have any other questions please feel free to let me know.

I have been through the manual several time as I acquired a copy a while ago. The reset switch on the back is for keyboard and mouse reset. I need to reset the kvm's software back to factory defaults. The keyboard/mouse reset doesn't do anything I have tried several times. As neither monitor port will work correctly, I have no way of viewing the command line. I need a hard reset button or to open it up and jump a pin or something.
Thanks Baz

Kenny K. & Baz,
I appreciate the information Kenny, but my experience is the same as Baz. The reset on the back is for the PS2 mouse ports only, and it only serves a purpose if the PS2 config has been saved through the OSCAR application.
I did a firmware update, but that didn't change the behavior. I have tried the KVM with a separate monitor, keyboard and mouse. The behavior is the same in all cases. The monitor blinks constantly, whether servers are connected or not. When the monitor is powered on, it will perfectly display the video output for one blink, then it is gone and blinks blank screens.
In addition, the OSCAR app is never activated and the keyboard and mouse seem constantly dead.
Your further assistance will be appreciated.

From everything that you have said it is sounding like you may just have a bad KVM. Do you have the order number it was bought on? If so, let me know and I can send you a direct msg and with my email address and you can email it to me and we can look into the best route to go on this.
