Have you tried uploading the firmware with Xmodem?  The User Guide below discusses using Xmodem starting on page 94.  Xmodem is used when other forms of transfer are not successful.  It will take a longer period of time to complete the transfer.

Hope this helps,

Keep us updated if you can.

Have you tried these steps to reset the system?  There is also a manual pinhole on the front panel to reset the switch back to factory defaults.

Reset the System

Use option 9 to reboot and reset the system to its default setting. User action is confirmed with a Y/N

question before executing the command.

To reset the system from the Boot menu:

1. On the Boot menu, select 9 and press .

The following prompt displays:

[Boot Menu] 9

Are you SURE you want to reset the system? (y/n):y

2. The boot process starts over.

Restore Configuration to Factory Defaults

Use option 10 to load using the system default configuration and to boot without using the current

startup configuration. Selecting 10 from the Boot Menu restores system defaults and deletes the

configuration files. Boot Sequence can then be started by selecting 1 from the Boot Menu.

To download software from the Boot menu:

1. On the Boot menu, select 10 and press .

The following prompt displays:

Are you SURE you want to delete the configuration? (y/n):y

2. The boot process resumes.

Thanks but this does not work as there is no os in the switch at this moment. I managed to get the os image file over to the switch, however it would freeze as below

1 - Start operational code.

2 - Start Boot Menu.

You can try reformatting the flash file system.  Before reformatting you will need to get the service tag, mac address and ppid from the switch stickers if you can't get into the switch.  You will need this information to complete the Reformat process successfully.  Depending on what Boot Code you have installed the option may be different.

Reformat and Restore File System

Use option 13 to format the flash file system if file corruption is observed. Certain critical files are copied

from flash to RAM, the flash file system is invalidated and formatted. Then, the files are copied from

RAM back to flash and the switch is rebooted. The following files are copied:

• image1

• image2

• startup-config

• vpd.bin

• hpc_broad.cfg

• boot.dim

1. From the Boot menu, select 13 and press .

The following messages display as the file system in RAM is formatted:

Instantiating /RamDisk/ as rawFs, device = 0x20001

Formatting /RamDisk/ for DOSFS

Instantiating /RamDisk/ as rawFs, device = 0x20001

Formatting.../RamDisk/: file system is marked clean, skipping check

OK.

Then, the file system is copied from flash memory to RAM:

copying file /DskVol/files/image1 -> /RamDisk/image1

copying file /DskVol/files/image2 -> /RamDisk/image2

copying file /DskVol/files/startup-config -> /RamDisk/startup-config

...

2. The system reboots..

It is possible to receive some assistance from phone support for this process.  The amount depends on what status the warranty is on the hardware.

Yes, me.

It wont boot up due to this error.

- There was an error during decompression... resetting the switch

This happens right after i made the firmware upgrade. Then i  select to boot on image 2. After that command then this happened.

This is on loop now.

is there a way we can fix this?

Here is a recovery option for corrupt IOS image. I pulled this information from the User Guide page 100.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/network/PC62xx/en/UCG/ucg_en.zip

Load New Operational Code Using XMODEM

Use option 4 when a new software version must be downloaded to replace corrupted files, update, or

upgrade the system software.

To download software from the Boot menu:

1. On the Boot menu, select 4 and press .

The following prompt displays:

[Boot Menu] 4

Ready to receive the file with XMODEM/CRC....

Ready to RECEIVE File xcode.bin in binary mode

Send several Control-X characters to cancel before transfer starts.

2. When using HyperTerminal, click Transfer on the HyperTerminal menu bar.

3. From the Transfer menu, click Send File.

The Send File window displays.

4. Enter the file path for the file to be downloaded.

5. Ensure the protocol is defined as Xmodem.

6. Click Send.

The software is downloaded. Software downloading takes several minutes. The terminal emulation

application, such as HyperTerminal, may display the loading process progress.
