Dell N2000 -> successors campus/edge switch

Hi there,

can anyone tell me which switch is the successor for the N2000 series?

I am looking for a not to pricy 48 Port Switch (optional with poe on all ports) best would be if they are stackable to limit the management effort

Hello,

Spanning tree topology changes are most of the time caused when a port flaps (goes down and then up).

When end devices (servers, printers, anything other than switch) are connected to a switch, the interface has to have configuration “spanning-tree edgeport” or “spanning-tree portfast” depending on the type of switch. When such an end device / server reboots (power off and on), this edgeport configuration will prevent sending topology change notifications within the whole spanning-tree domain. You can check the logs on your switches in that STP domain and look for any ports going up and down. Or you can,  without much troubleshooting, set all ports to “spanning-tree edgeport” except the ports that connect to other switches. To see if there were topology changes on the switch you can use:

OS10-1# show spanning-tree detail | grep changes

For a successor to N2000 series I'll list a couple:

https://dell.to/44hNGRo PowerSwitch N3200-ON:

The Dell PowerSwitch N3200-ON Series switches offer Power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities.
https://dell.to/3xRX5TI

 1GbE Switches:

These 1RU switches come with up to 48 line-rate 1GbE ports (either copper or fiber).

Additionally, they feature four integrated 10GbE SFP+ ports.

PoE variants are available with up to 48 ports of 802.3at(30W) PoE11.

(example  - N3248P-ON)

Multigig Switches:

These 1RU switches provide a range of speeds: 1G/2.5G/5G/10GbE copper ports.

They also include four integrated 25GbE SFP28 ports.

PoE variants are available with up to 48 ports of 802.3bt(60W/90W) PoE11.

(example   N3248PXE-ON)

2. Dell PowerSwitch E3200 Series. This switch supports SONiC and OS10 operating system.

It is not “stackable”, instead it uses MLAG (for sonic) and VLT (for OS10) for redundancy.

Those are some Dell campus/edge switches, you can discuss further details by calling Dell and speaking to sales team members.

Sales would be a good place to contact. They can gather your criteria and supply you options.

Hey Charles, thanks for the detailed reply.

thats much appreciated.

I just wish the spanning tree event would be in the logging as it is on the N2000 series thats so easy to filter and maintain.
