Dell S4128F-ON Stacking

Hello,

We just purchased two S4128F-ON switches that came preloaded with OS10.4 from our vendor. I am installing these switches to replace two Cisco 2960s switches that currently use for iSCSI traffic.

These switches arrived with 40G-DAC QSFP cables that I assumed were for stacking these switches, but I'm seeing articles that stacking is not supported on OS10. Is that true?

I'm seeing VLT as another option but won't I still have a looped topology with these two switches connected in a VLT domain and then run a LACP connection up to our provider?

Apologies if I'm having being ignorant with how loops are formed, but I thought that was the advantage to stacking.

Thanks.

Hi,
Yes, OS 10 does not support stacking currently. You would have to use OS 9 or a different OS. VLT would still use STP to block some ports so there is not a loop.

Hi, I'm about to buy this very same model and had the intention of stacking both units. Are you removing the functionality from OS or was just a problem with version 10 that will be fixed?

Feeling a bit of concern here.

Dell Data Sheet says that stacking is supported on S-Series and does not indicate which ones do not.

Weird to me that a version upgrade would see a significant feature lost. Seems a bit or poor insight to exclude the capability. What happened to the Dev team with the changes?

Is there a date or roadmap to when OS10 will support it again?

Have a pair of S4128F's and no idea what to do with them anymore.

S-Series support the stack mode with OS9. Not OS10.

From what I know, there is nothing planned to support stacking in the OS10.

In my point of view, VLT is better than stack for the datacenter. You could update switch if servers are dual attached whitout impacting production (for example).
