Force 10 "Port is not in layer-2 mode"
When trying to configure a port in a layer-3 VLAN we get the error "Port is not in layer-2 mode".
Reading the documentation regarding layer-3 VLANs everything seems pretty straight forward, but we can't get it to work. We have following configuration:
interface TenGigabitEthernet 1/5
no ip address
shutdown
!
interface Vlan 2
name management
ip address "ip-address" /24
no shutdown
!
Next we try
configure terminal
interface vlan2
untagged TenGigabitEthernet 1/5
Error: Port is not in Layer-2 mode Te 1/5
But it's layer-3, so the port shouldn't be in layer-2 mode.
Are any other configuration steps needed? Or has anyone expercience with this error?

Thank you for your answer.
We are trying to configure layer 3, not 2. Switchport is normally not necessary.
The "No shutdown" commando was executed on the interface.
Explicitly adding "no switchport" to the interface doesn't help either.

We need to install a Dell Force 10 - S4048 in a data center.
But we don't have expercience with this model, only with the Dell N2000/N3000/N4000 series. And there seems to be a difference in the command line.
The situation is as follows: we need 4 vlans
Layer-2 works, layer-3 doesn't.
We just cleared the entire switch and executed following steps (I have added the config below):
It looks like we are missing something obvious.

Thanks you, executing the switchport command on the physical interface did solve the issue.
But the documentation is quite confusing, since "switchport" is only specifically mentioned with Layer 2.
If followed this guide: http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_networking/esuprt_net_fxd_prt_swtchs/force10-s4810_owner%27s%20manual3_en-us.pdf (pages 416 and 417 is layer 3 configuration)
After testing devices layer 3 VLANs can communicate with devices in other layer 3 VLANs, and devices in layer 2 VLANs only within their own VLAN.
