Link dropping on and off on PC 3348

Hi

I have a PowerConnect 3348 which is working absolutely grand, normally. However, I have two PCs which get link down events all the time. One is a Dell OptiPlex GX270 with on-board NIC. The other is a Linux laptop with a Netgear PCMCIA NIC. On the linux box, when I run mii-diag watching, I get the following output (excerpt):

10:56:06.770 MII BMSR now 786d: Good link, NWay done, No Jabber (45e1)
New link partner capability os 45e1 0017: 10/100 switch w/ flow control.
10:56:09.622 MII BMSR now 7849: no link, NWay busy, No Jabber (0000)
10:56:11.469 MII BMSR now 786d: Good link, NWay done, No Jabber (45e1)
New link partner capability os 45e1 0017: 10/100 switch w/ flow control.
10:56:12.911 MII BMSR now 7849: no link, NWay busy, No Jabber (0000)

... and so repeats ad infinitum - or Ctrl-C...

I have tried plugging the laptop into a network plug in another room, in which I never had any problems with the network. The results remain the same. I have tried switching off flow control - no luck. I have tried switching the NIC on the laptop to 10MBits no auto-negotiation - yay it works fine. But with any other mode, it doesn't.

I suspect the logs for the OptiPlex would look the same, and that is not in the same room - though the link down events are much less frequent there.

All the other PCs connected to that switch work fine.

Anyone seen anything similar? got any idea?

I would try hard setting the speed/duplex on both the NIC and the switchport to 100full.  If this does not work, but does work at 10Full, then I would try either a new cable and/or updating the NIC driver.
No Events found!
