m1000e, 6348s, and 7024s

Hello,

We are looking for advice on networking an m1000e, with two 910s, and two 610s, with an EqualLogic PS 6000, via two PowerConnect 6348s in fabric A1 and A2, and two PowerConnect 7024s. I didn't have anything to do with the planning process. I just showed up at the right time as a system admin.

Any pointers, best practices, and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ray

Here is a link to a great whitepaper on Equallogic configuration.

en.community.dell.com/.../download.aspx

Page 9-97 and 9-98 actually give recommendations on physical set up of the hardware that you have listed above.

Let us know if you any specific questions on configuring the switches.  We do have a storage forum also that may have more specific answers referring to the Equallogic hardware.

Thanks for the quick response Willy.

I was looking at these very pages earlier today but we only have 1 pair of 6348s where the examples in the guide show 2 pairs.

This also has the PS 6100 so it's not quite what we need. We have a Dell engineer coming out to actually configure the PS 6000 for us but he said I needed to have them networked with VLANs on the 6348s and 7024s.

So far, I think we can run a LAG on the 6348s, with 4 ports to 4 ports on stacked 7024s sharing the same VLAN. Can we run the 6348s into the 7024s as in page  9-95 and then uplink the 6348s to our managed LAN?

I haven't done any switch work in a few years so I'll have more questions on configs once I get on the right track.
