VLAN routing requires the use of a separate IP subnet for each VLAN. The router uses Layer3 IP Addresses to route traffic, therefore you must configure the VLAN interface with an IP address (sometimes referred to as Switched Virtual Interfaces) to populate the routing table. This IP address acts as the gateway for your clients. A router cannot be configured with more than one interface on the same IP subnet.
